Miracle Muck

Miracle Muck

 Artist and Framers Favorite Adhesive

Miracle MuckTM is one of the Art and Framing industries favorite products.   Thousands of Artists and Framers use it every day for bonding just about any type of Canvas or Fabric (Cotton, Linen, Silk etc) to almost any type of surface.  It is also a great joining adhesive perfect for use in frame corners.  It has been a key ingredient in allowing us to become the country's largest producer of Fabric-Covered Liners, Panels, and Bulletin Board surfaces.  Fabrics adhered to Liner stock or Canvas applied to most "hardboard" substrates ideally should be allowed to cure overnight before cutting with a saw.

Miracle Muck, is a modified PVA (Poly Vinyl Acetate) type adhesive developed for Raphael's after a process of extensive experimentation.  It dries clear, does not outgas, and does not yellow or become brittle over time.   These properties make it safe for use in the framing package, but because it is a PERMANENT adhesive it does not qualify to be referred to as a "conservation quality" product.  Many Artists also use Muck to size a canvas prior to applying the ground.  It should be applied to both sides of the canvas with a foam roller or soft brush.  The number of coats necessary depends on what you will use as a ground and whether you are painting with acrylics or oil based paints.  We recommend testing a small canvas first to achieve your desired finish.
Muck is generally used as it comes out of the jug (cold and wet) but it can also be heat activated.  This property is useful if you are working with very sheer materials where "bleed-through" is a concern.  We can tell you more about this if you give us a call.
Important Storage Notes:  DO NOT ALLOW MUCK TO FREEZE OR IT WILL SPOIL.  Try to avoid ordering when temperatures will be below freezing or above 90 degrees because both extremes will reduce the potency of Muck.  Keep your Muck in a place that is out of direct sunlight and between 40 and 80 degrees and it will last for years.
